Flash mob on opening day of Terminal 5

The campaign against expansion of Heathrow airport continues. I'll be going along to the opening day of Terminal 5, the biggest airport terminal ever built in the UK, to take part in a flash mob.

Flash mobs are great fun. I'll describe the last one I went to: Picture a town square full of people standing around chatting or doing some shopping.

Suddenly, almost everyone in the square lies down on the ground! Waves of surprise and confusion ripple through the remaining crowd. Then, just as suddenly, everyone gets up and walks off. I think everybody left with a smile on their face.

The Heathrow action leverages this fun phenomenon and puts it to good use. As far as I know this is the first time a flash mob has been used to highlight a cause of climate change. I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes, and I'll be sure to let you know.

At a certain time, everyone will put on their 'stop airport expansion' t-shirts, walk about a bit, pose for some press photographers, then take off their t-shirts and leave. I wonder what all the people going on their holidays will make of it all.

If you want to join in, go to the T5 Flash Mob website and order your free t-shirt.
